Can Quitters Be Big Winners?
By: Jessica Miller - Staff Writer for RedHotFranchises.com
What do you think of when you hear the phrase “corporate America?” For many, it beings to mind images of the increasing divide between the executives and the workers. For others it brings to mind reflections on the stories they've heard on the news: stories about corporations that mislead their employees and the public with actions that are criminal.
Corporate America can be frustrating, especially to those of us who haven't been groomed for those elusive executive positions. That's why, more and more often, white collar and blue collar workers alike dream of quitting the corporate America rat race and going into business for themselves.
These workers know themselves. They know that they like talking with new people, that they are comfortable having direct contact with their customers. They know that they are go getters; they know that they want to take an active role in their success. They know that they have the business skills to make a company successful – they've seen the ways that their bosses have taken advantage of those skills. They even know that they have access to the money they'll need – not only to get started with their business but to grow that business. The problem that many of those workers face, though, is that they do not know where to start. The problem is that many small businesses start out with great ideas and great intentions but never see the success that they deserve. This may be the fault of poor planning or the lack of community commitment to the project.
But the risk that is involved in starting your own business should not be enough to frighten you away from your dream of working for yourself.
Rather than starting from the ground up, why not look into franchise opportunities? When you open a franchise, after all, you will be building on the success of an established company.
Rather than committing a great deal of time to developing a business idea and a business plan, you can spend a smaller amount of time by looking into franchise opportunities. You can consider your interests – do you enjoy cars? Eating out? Travel? Real Estate? Cosmetics? Fitness?
Regardless of what your interests are, it is possible to own a franchise that is related to those interests. More importantly, you can look for franchise opportunities that not only match your interests but that also match your startup budget.
Not all franchises require a huge up-front investment the way that many start-up companies do. Not all franchises will even require that you find office space; there are a number of franchise opportunities that you can take advantage of from a home office.
Because of the wide range of possibilities that are available to franchisees, many find that, when they stop working for others – when they quit fighting the uphill battle of climbing the corporate ladder – they find the successes that they have always wanted to have.
If you're ready to win big, if you are ready to own your own franchise, all which is left is finding the right franchise for you. Do your homework; look into all of the options. Find the franchise that will allow you to pursue your interests. Find a franchise within those interests that will help you with training and marketing.
But do more than that. Look at the success of franchisees within the company; see what the company offers franchisees and its overall financial strength.
In other words, prepare for starting a franchise the same way in which you would prepare for taking on any new job. Look into the company; see whether or not it is a good fit for you. With a little preparation, you'll find yourself able to quit the routines of corporate America and to win big: to make your dreams of business ownership come true.
