Are Franchise Opportunities on the Rise Because of Gas Prices?

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Franchises could be the answer to some majore work issues these days. As gas prices rise higher and higher, more companies are starting to downsize their operations, which means an increasing number of people are finding themselves out of work. Unwilling to pay outrageous gas prices, many of these people are looking for options.

Home-based franchises offer a huge advantage to those who have lost their jobs thanks to the falling economy and skyrocketing gas prices. And, with a franchise, these people can easily be up and running within a couple of months, give or take a few weeks, depending on the amount of training required. Unlike businesses that are started from scratch, franchises often begin to earn fairly quickly.

Home based businesses in general are becoming more popular, according to Rich Sloan.

According to the survey, the ripple effect of the economy has given rise to increased business start-ups. Nearly a quarter of survey respondents (22%), stated that they started their business after being downsized.

Being downsized isn´t necessarily the worst thing to happen to people. As you can see, many are taking this opportunity to take their destiny into their own hands and set up shop for themselves. And many find that a franchise opportunity is the ideal way to get into business faster. Despite the issues in the nation, many franchisees are doing quite well with their own businesses and enjoying the freedom of working for themselves.

Franchises Come With Lots of Responsibility

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Too often, people assume that a franchise will be much easier than starting their own business. Unfortunately, that´s not quite the case. While certain aspects of the franchise may be easier than a business from scratch, there are still a lot of responsibilities involved.

Here are just a few of the areas that you will be responsible for when running a franchise.

  • Finding a location and renting or building it. Some franchises will help you with this, but it is still something that you need to do.
  • Hiring and training employees. You will first need to learn what is necessary to know.
  • Study your business and learn how to run it according to the rules. Franchises require you to follow their guidelines, so this will take some studying to know what is expected of you.
  • Dealing with the day to day running of your business. You will have support available to you through the franchise, but when it comes down to it, the business is yours and you will have to deal with problems as they come up.

It´s not all fun and games and people who expect running a franchise to be very easy are often disappointed. This is when franchise opportunities fail, when the franchisee just isn´t ready to take on the responsibility.

Franchise to the Rescue: 3 Critical Points in Life When Your Own Business is a Great Idea

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

Not everyone is ready to run a business at the same time. We each have critical points in our lives when the dreaming and thinking becomes a good idea and that´s when franchises are the perfect option. When you reach that point when dreaming about breaking away from your dead end job just isn´t good enough . . . a franchise will help you get off the ground quickly and with a much higher chance of success.

There are 3 particular points in life when investing in a franchise is a great idea.

When you lose interest in your day job. If you are lucky enough to be able to come up with the capital needed, this is the ideal time to go with a franchise. You´ve learned enough about the business world to put it to use and you´ve got a pretty good idea of what you don´t want.

When you get fired.
It happens all the time. There is very little job stability these days and you need to keep that in mind when you are choosing a place to work. If and when you lose your job, it´s a great time to look at investing in a business of your own instead of another job.

When you have some extra money.
Not having to find funding for your new business or franchise is a huge advantage, so if you come into some money, consider investing it in your future, rather than buying that sports car you´ve always wanted.

These are not the only times to invest in a franchise, but they are the ones that most people find the most convenient and the times that they tend to be pushed to the edge of their comfort zone anyway, so what is one step further?

Why Businesses Become Franchises

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Have you ever stopped to think about why a business would decide to become a franchise? Franchises are quite popular these days, but what does the actual business get out of being a franchise?

Money. Obviously a franchise gets the initial payment and monthly franchise fees, which is a pretty good deal, for both parties. This isn´t the only reason for a business to franchise, though.

Local experts. You know your city better than an international company and they want that expertise in their locations. By going with a franchise license, the company can ensure that local interest will keep the business going and probably turn it into a success.

Success. People work harder when a business is their own. By franchising, a company will have far greater success than they would by simply hiring managers in many cases.

Less overhead. Since each franchise location will be responsible for supporting itself and its staff, the company doesn´t have to worry about dealing with huge overhead costs like other nation-wide businesses.

There are many reasons why a business would decide to become a franchise, but most businesses have more than one reason to go this route. It all boils down to being more efficient and successful in the long run and that is beneficial to you, the franchisee, as well.

Coffee Franchises: More Than a Drink

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Coffeehouses are popping up all over the place and there is no denying that coffee franchises are more popular than ever. A coffee shop is a great place to meet with friends or clients over a mocha, sit down to work uninterrupted on your laptop or simply to catch up on the daily goings on. It has become a part of our daily life, that trip to get a cup of coffee.

Some coffee franchises, like Starbucks, are meant to process a large number of people in record time. The ambiance isn´t necessarily conducive to warm chitchat, but it does work very well for freelancers and meetings. Other coffee franchises offer a more homey atmosphere, where clients come to hang out and to enjoy a community experience. Either way, both types of coffeehouses are much in demand and if you´re looking for a surefire success . . . coffee could be it.

Deciding which type of franchise opportunity to go with depends greatly on your personal preference. If you enjoy talking with clients and wouldn´t dream of a more industrial look, then check out more personal coffee franchises. However, if you are more interested in the business side of things, a “fast coffee” franchise might be a better option.

Coffee is a big industry and there is still a huge demand for it, meaning that an investment in a coffee franchise is going to be a great one.

When Is a Franchise a Bad Idea?

Friday, May 9th, 2008

Franchise opportunities are not for everyone. In fact, some people would be far better off not investing in a franchise at all, as they are going to be more prone to problems and possibly failure. How do you know when a franchise is a bad idea for you?

  • You aren´t a take control person. If you aren´t comfortable being in charge, you won´t be comfortable running a franchise. It´s true that the franchise company offers support and will walk you through the process, but at the end of the day, it´s you who will be in control.
  • You hate taking orders. If you want to make your own rules, chances are a franchise is not for you. You´ll be required to stick to the plan set out by the franchise company and though there are definitely some that offer more rope than others, most people who are against authority prefer to start their own business.
  • The franchise is a bad one. How do you know if it´s a dud? By checking with the Better Business Bureau. They´ll be able to alert you to any complaints lodged against a particular franchise business, but make sure you check with the BBB in the state the franchise is based in.

Franchises are a great idea for the majority of people, but there are definitely a few who are not cut out to run a franchise. If you are one of them, you don´t want to throw your money away investing in something that will likely not work for you. However, if you aren´t either of the people listed above, then chances are a franchise opportunity would be just right for you!
